Chennai airport is 135 kms from Pondicherry and flights connect to major cities in India and directly to destinations in Europe, Asian, Middle East and the US. Direct flights from Europe are by British Airways, Lufthansa and Sabena. Other airlines fly to Mumbai (Bombay) and New Delhi and will arrange a connecting domestic flight to Chennai.
Flights service also available from Pondicherry to Chennai and Pondicherry to Tirupathi, Jagson Airlines providing limited service. At present the sevice is not available for passengers. Due to some maintenance work in Pondicherry Airport. It seems sevices is to be started soon by 25 seated small planes.
At present all service were cancelled.Now airport has been handling only trainer aircraft from the local flying school.Eventhough there is no direct plane to Pondicherry. Yo may reach Chennai international airport by flight. From there it takes only 2 hrs and 30 mins to reach pondicherry by road. Many rental taxis are available from chennai airport to Pondicherry.
If you are not interested in taxis you may also take bus from Chennai airport. Airport lies on the NH-45 road. Many buses will stop there in trisulam bus stop.
