From chennai, we can reach pondicherry by two roads either by national highway 45 or by East Coast Road. But moving through ECR really makes you remind the trip forever.

East Coast Road(ECR) if most scenic road to reach pondicherry, it runs on the cost of Bay of Bengal. If your starting from Chennai, first junction you need to reach is thiruvanmiyur and take the ECR road from there. This Road is four lane till “ECR – Solinganallur” junction.

This Road is packed with most of the chennai’s entertainments parks, resorts, open air theaters. Few to name VGP, MGM, Mayajal, TTDC Boat house at Muttukadu, Kovalam Beach, Beach Resorts, many more restaurants.

When to start

It is advised to start in early morning between 5.00 and 6.00 AM which gives you real blend of Sunrise, BackWater and Fog. You should enjoy it!!!. ECR is a toll road and the toll starts from Uthandi and you need pay 48 Rupees for one way trip or 90 for a return toll. Return toll is valid till midnight of the same day ( it is not valid for 24 Hours).

There are only limited petrol bunks are on ECR, its better you ensure, you have enough fuel to reach pondicherry. You can full your fuel tank for less price at Pondicherry, atleast 4 to 5 Rupess less per litter than Chennai.

After 30-45 Minutes of travel from thiruvanmiyur you will reach Mamamallapuram where you can plan for your BreakFast, It will take 1 hr 15 minutes you to reach Marakanam from mallapuram. And from here another 45 minutes to reach Pondicherry Town.

Drive carefully in ECR

Yes! ECR is beautiful and scenic Road …. But do not forget it is most danger road too. There are many major fatal accidents happens daily due to High Speed. Look for sharp cures – reduce your speed to 60 KPH. Help others by not parking you cars on Road.

Many road side hotels are there in ECR to have some drink & relax.
