Boating and water sports

Pondicherry is famous for its water sports and other activities.Among the other options of recreation in Pondicherry boating is worth mentioning. This relaxing boat trip takes you through the spectacular surroundings of Chunnambar River.

On an average, around 150 people visit Sampourna daily, and on weekends the figure touches 400 a day.

The crowd on Saturdays and Sundays is unmanageable. The number of visitors is increasing by the day. Most visitors come here to enjoy being by the poolside.

Boules

French leave their popularized game boules in Pondicherry and now also it is played as an outdoor game played with large iron balls. The players roll the large iron balls towards a small one and get as close to it as possible.

The game is played nowhere else in the country. Early only the soldats played this , but now many have taken to it. Nearly 30 boules clubs function in the city. Usually a 13m long and 8 m broad ground is chosen to play tournaments. The iron balls weigh 650-800 g and are imported from France.
